What’s a holiday party or even the traditional Christmas morning scene itself without a beautifully decorated tree? If your household, as those of more than 33 million other American homes, includes a natural tree in its festivities, take to heart the sales person’s suggestion—”Keep the tree watered.” That’s good advice and not just to create a fragrant indoor winter wonderland atmosphere. Christmas trees account for 200 fires annually, resulting in 6 deaths, 25 injuries and more than $6 million in property damage. Typically shorts in electrical lights or open flames from candles, lighters or matches start tree fires. Well-watered trees are not a problem. Dry and neglected trees can be.

Fire District No. 2 Crews Assist in Southern Oregon Wildfires

 Deer_CreekOn Monday, September 21, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m., four (4) Douglas County Fire District No.2 Fire Fighters, with one Fire Engine and one Command Unit and three (3) Sutherlin Fire Department Fire Fighters, with one Fire Engine; under the direction of Fire District No.2 Fire Chief Michel V. Hansen; traveled to Southern Oregon to assist fire crews battling two large wild fires. Deer_Creek1The signing of a Conflagration Act at 12:52 p.m. yesterday by Governor Ted Kulongoski, which free up state resources to help fight the fire; and a request for automatic aid received from Jackson County Fire Authorities, prompted both of these Douglas County Fire Protection Agencies to commit some of their resources. The crews from both agencies have been incorporated into the Jackson County Task Force and will be deployed as needed to assist fire crews on any of these fires.
