Summer winds increase the evaporation from damp surfaces by carrying away moist air and bringing in dryer air; therefore, accelerating the drying process of natural fuels. They also favor the spread of the fire by making it burn faster and carrying sparks and fire brands ahead of the main fire, and starting additional fires.
Citizens must remember that their best protection against natural cover fires is to have a defensible space around their homes, and also an emergency escape plan.
Agricultural burning when used in the management of crop and range lands as defined in Oregon Statutes will be allowed as weather conditions permit. Authorization for agricultural burning will require and inspection of approval and a special burn permit.
