Douglas County Fire Prevention Cooperative is presenting Fire Prevention Week activities at the Roseburg Home Depot October 6th – 9th. Wednesday and Thursday local schools will visit with Firefighters, Paramedics, Police Officers and other local emergency responders learning what to do in an emergency. Friday and Saturday (10am – 4pm) are Family Days with activities for the whole family.
Fire Prevention Week has been around for decades. Because of it and similar events and campaigns, great strides have been made over the years in delivering fire safety and injury prevention education to the public. As a result, fire-caused fatalities have dropped from an average of 15,000 deaths per year a century ago to an average of 3,000 deaths per year during the last several decades. This decrease can also be attributed to the advent and promotion of smoke alarms, improvements in built in fire protection and life safety requirements on building and fire codes, advances in fire protection systems technologies, and other fire prevention measures
