Out of Control Burns Keep DCFD2 Firefighters Busy
Two burns that got out of control kept DCFD2 firefighters busy Monday afternoon.
The first fire was reported at 04:29 p.m. at 125 Fisher Road in Garden Valley. Property owner Daniel Martin was burning grass along a rock retaining wall when the wind blew embers into a grassy area nearby. Fanned by the afternoon wind the fire rapidly spread from the property of origin into the nearby properties at 19 Royal Oak Drive and 5 Ridgewood Drive, where the fire damaged a fence. Fire crew’s efforts upon their arrival at the scene (7 minutes later) concentrated on protecting the threatened structures, while at the same time aggressively fighting the fast moving grass fire. The fire was declared under control at 04:42 p.m. (6 minutes later). A total of 13 firefighters with 1 fire engine, 2 brush engines and three command vehicles responded to this fire. DFPA also assisted with 2 firefighters and 1 brush engine.
